Most Republicans Refused to Participate in Forum
The majority of Republican candidates refused to participate in a local non-partisan candidate forum.
The League of Women Voters had a Hays County Candidate forum on Zoom, Oct 10, 2024. The candidates for Hays County Constable Pct 2 and Hays County Court-at-Law #3 participated in the forum.
Forums for the following races were not held because the Republican candidates did not agree to participate. However, the Democratic candidates agreed to participate.
League of Women Voters rules require both candidates participate for the race to be on the agenda.
· District Clerk (Unexpired Term)
· Sheriff
· Commissioner, Precinct 3
· District Judge, 483rd Judicial District
· State Representative, District 45
The League of Women Voters forum has strict rules on conduct. They do not allow you to attack opponents.
In the 2020 and 2024 election cycles, many of the Republican candidates attended the League of Women Voter forum but performed poorly. The Republican candidates, even the incumbents, failed to adequately answer questions.
